Rad Frosh 2006 will take place September 2nd - September 8th
Radfrosh. n. s.
“radical adj. (R
d -k l)1. Arising from or going to a root or source;(1)
+ “frosh ( fr sh) n. Informal pl. A freshman, as in college.(2)
= Radfrosh (r d-fr sh): 1. The First Year Orientation program for students looking to change the world from the bottom up. 2. The froshweek run by OPIRG-Carleton, an organisation of students remaking the world for over 20 years.
We exist because we thought that frosh ought to be different, that a great orientation week would engage students not only with each other, but also with their city and the world. Orientation exists to connect first-year students to their new lives, but our lives are a product of the rich community where we live. In the course of your week with Radfrosh, you will come to know more about yourselves, the university, the city we share and the world-systems that connect us all. Radfrosh combines music nights featuring great local funk/oldschool DJs in a lounge for mingling; Radical Tour, a walk through the social history and the political present of Ottawa’s diverse neighbourhoods, with lunch at one of Ottawa’s excellent vegetarian-friendly restaurants; Teach-in night, with workshops with local activists; a two-night film-festival featuring, Colombia Revolt by the newsreel collective and Peter Watkins’ “incendiary classic" (3), Punishment Park. But more than being a week of great activities, Radfrosh connects students to the great people, places and opportunities to make a difference that make Ottawa and Carleton University exciting places to be.
RadFrosh is a prodiversity orientation program. We welcome and encourage the participation of students of all genders, sexual orientations, races, ethnicities, cultures, ages, abilities and classes. We encourage participation especially from members of marginalised and historically oppressed social positions.
